To some women it sounds like a curse word, but submission is such a blessing! As I continue reading “Marriage Covenant” by Faith Oyedepo I am gleaning more and more holy insights on marriage and on my part to play as a woman. Yes, she talks about men too, but I am more concerned about my part in this covenant. I must uphold my end and do it well.
Women abhor submission because it was first instituted under the curse. “…thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” Genesis 3:16. When we first see it, the curse is coming into effect and judgement is being pronounced over the woman. However, Jesus came and overturned the curse. The man no longer has to rule with an iron fist over his wife, instead she willingly submits herself to his leadership. It is not by force any more. No man can make a woman submit! Not even if he beats her up every morning, noon and night like a dose of medicine.
When Jesus died on Calvary grace was released to walk in obedience to the word of God. There is grace to walk out Ephesians 5:22 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” Ladies, there is grace to submit! It is available for those who will take it.
Faith says this in her book, “The wonderful thing about obeying God and genuinely submitting to one’s husband, is that automatically, there is a covering over such a woman. There is now one to protect her, one to fend for her, one to look after her. The stubborn self-willed woman is at a loss, because the care she should naturally enjoy from the man is simply not there.”
The woman is her husbands glory and over all the glory, there shall be a covering – Him. It is no wonder then that when Ruth proposed to Boaz she said “…I am Ruth your maid. So spread your covering over your maid, for you are a close relative.” Ruth 3:9. Ladies marriage gives you a covering. You are tucked under his wing of protection, provision, love, caring and so much more. You, in turn, submit to the authority vested in him by Jehovah himself. In submitting to your own husband, you are submitting to God.
So take this Holy ‘S’ word off your list of curse words! You have been redeemed from the curse! Step into the blessing of submission.
